Pu‘u Muay Thai Ventura Brings Home Medals From Athlon Kickboxing at the LA Fit Expo!

Words can’t describe the energy from the Pu‘u Muay Thai Competition team this past weekend!

Our fighters did amazing at the Athlon Kickboxing Challenge at the LA Fitness Expo over the past weekend. We had our first woman competitor for Pu‘u Muay Thai, Joanna Marquez, make her amateur debut as well as our veteran fighter Christian Hernandez make a splash into the WAKO tournament.

Joanna was set definitely the smallest in her weight division but she didn’t let that affect her. She came out with a 1st round TKO Win in her first match bringing home the 1st win of the tournament to our Muay Thai Ventura Program!puu-muay-thai-ventura-winners-athlon

Christian was up next against a tough opponent from Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was great to have Christian fight as his last 5 matches last year all fell through. He truly showed that his timing, ring control and real Muay Thai technique were on point as he brought home a WIN via Unanimous Decision, where he literally kicked his opponent out of the ring! Christian now gets a pass to the semi-finals in Las Vegas later on in the year and took home the West Coast WAKO Championship for Modified Muay Thai back home to our Muay Thai Ventura program.

Joanna’s second fight of the day (and second fight ever) was against another woman with 10+ fights to her name and a title under her belt. Joanna showed true heart and determination on coming through and fighting this veteran and showed amazing potential for future competitions. Although she didn’t get the decision from the judges, she fought a munch cleaner and improved fight than in her first one. Not only that, but she didn’t give up and stayed focused on our technique.

Great work team!
